The WGEID was the first Special Procedure established in 1980 by the Commission on Human Rights. It is one of the more than forty thematic Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council. The CED is the treaty body established by the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance to monitor its implementation. Both bodies are composed of independent experts.
